Marine data & blockchain solutions

Ocean data
you can prove.

Tidestamp anchors tides, weather, wildlife sightings and voyage telemetry to the BSV blockchain the instant they are captured. Every reading carries a timestamp that no one, including us, can rewrite.

The problem

The ocean generates more data than almost anything on Earth. Almost none of it is provable.

Marine measurements shape shipping routes, fishing quotas, insurance payouts and climate models. Yet the record of what was measured, and when, still lives in files that can be altered without a trace.

Logs can be edited

A spreadsheet, a CSV, a database row. Anyone with access can quietly change a reading after the fact, and no one can tell.

Provenance evaporates

By the time a measurement reaches a report, nobody can say which sensor took it, when, or whether it was recalibrated on the way.

Disputes come down to trust

Insurance claims, fisheries compliance and coastal engineering decisions ride on data that cannot be independently checked.

Products

Two ways to put the ocean on the record.

One captures what your vessel sees. The other protects what your instruments report. Both write to the same public ledger and speak the same proof format.

Sidecar for OpenCPN

Plug in. Sail. Every fix becomes evidence.

A palm-sized IoT device that sits beside any OpenCPN chartplotter, listens to the same NMEA and SignalK feeds, and hashes every position, sounding, wind reading and AIS contact onto the BSV blockchain as you go. Your vessel quietly builds a tamper-evident ledger of everything it observed.

  • Zero-config capture from NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000 and SignalK streams
  • Offline-first: records are buffered at sea and anchored the moment a link returns
  • Merkle-batched, so a full day of telemetry costs less than a cup of coffee
  • Exportable proof bundles for researchers, insurers, race committees and regulators
  • Opt in to share anonymised tracks with the Tidestamp open ocean dataset

TideProof

Data integrity for tidal records.

Tide gauges make decisions worth billions: dredging schedules, flood insurance, sea-level trend lines, harbour openings. TideProof stamps every gauge reading onto the BSV blockchain as it arrives, then gives anyone a one-call way to verify a reading has not been altered since the moment it was measured.

  • Continuous stamping of gauge, buoy and pressure-sensor series at native sample rates
  • Per-reading proof certificates with block height, timestamp and Merkle path
  • Chain-break detection flags any gap, backfill or retroactive edit automatically
  • REST and webhook verification API for ports, engineers, insurers and courts
  • Drop-in connectors for common gauge loggers and existing SCADA pipelines

WildTag

A wildlife tag that pays whoever finds it, on the spot.

Wildlife agencies tag an animal, release it, and depend on the next person who catches it to phone in. Fewer than half ever do, the reward arrives weeks late, and the recapture position is whatever someone remembers days afterwards. WildTag replaces the printed phone number with a QR code carrying a bearer secret. Arming a tag locks a real reward on the BSV blockchain. Scanning it pays the finder in seconds and writes their position, measurements and report into the same transaction that moves the money, so the data and the payment can never be separated.

Proven on chain
  • The record existed by a given block time and has not been altered since.
  • Whoever redeemed the tag held the physical tag. The spend needs its printed key.
  • The reward was paid, and can only be claimed once. It is a single UTXO.
Attested, not proven
  • The finder's position. Phone geolocation is self-reported, so it is bound to the tag key and the finder's wallet identity and recorded with its accuracy, not proven.
  • That the animal went back in the water. The re-release bonus is only released when the same tag turns up again, so a false claim forfeits it.

How it works

From sensor to certainty in four steps.

Tidestamp never asks you to trust a Tidestamp server. The proof lives on a public chain and the maths is open.

  1. 01

    Capture

A Sidecar or TideProof connector reads the raw measurement straight from the sensor, before any software touches it.

  2. 02

    Hash

Each record is canonicalised and fingerprinted with SHA-256. The data itself stays with you; only the fingerprint travels.

  3. 03

    Anchor

Fingerprints are batched into a Merkle tree and written to the BSV blockchain, where miners timestamp them in a public block.

  4. 04

    Verify

Anyone, anywhere, forever, can recompute the hash and check it against the chain. No account, no permission, no Tidestamp required.

Why BSV

The only ledger built for sensor-scale data.

Most blockchains are designed for a few thousand transactions a day. Marine instrumentation generates millions. BSV is the one public chain where every reading can have its own immutable timestamp without a budget conversation.

Back-of-envelope
86,400
readings / day at 1 Hz
≈ $0.10
to anchor them all, Merkle-batched

Fees measured in fractions of a cent

A sensor sampling every second produces 86,400 readings a day. On BSV, anchoring all of them costs less than the electricity to run the sensor.

Throughput that matches the ocean

Unbounded block sizes mean fleets, gauge networks and buoy arrays can write at full sample rate without queueing or batching compromises.

Public, permanent, provable

Timestamps are set by proof-of-work, not by a vendor clock. Once a block is mined, the moment a reading existed is fixed for good.

Your data stays yours

By default only hashes reach the chain. Publish full payloads when you want open science; keep them private when you don't.

Use cases

Wherever a marine number needs to hold up.

Marine research

Publish datasets reviewers can verify to the second. Make reproducibility a property of the data, not a promise in the paper.

Fisheries & compliance

Prove where a vessel was, what it caught and when, with a record that satisfies regulators and buyers alike.

Ports & harbours

Tamper-evident tide and traffic records for dredging contracts, berth disputes and safety investigations.

Insurance & claims

Settle weather and grounding claims on data that was anchored before the incident, not reconstructed after it.

Offshore racing & charter

An incorruptible track log for race juries, and a verified voyage history that adds resale value to the boat.

Citizen science

Let every sailor contribute to a shared, verifiable picture of the ocean, one honest reading at a time.

Get started

Put your first dataset on the record.

We run short, low-risk pilots: one vessel, one gauge or one batch of tags, thirty days, real proofs on the real chain. Tell us what you measure and we will show you what it looks like anchored.

  • No commitment beyond the pilot
  • Your data stays yours; only hashes touch the chain by default
  • A named engineer, not a ticket queue
